Bearing Temperature Monitoring Project

The Bearing Temperature Monitoring is a key safety and maintenance tool designed to continuously monitor the temperature of train wheel bearings. Overheated bearings can lead to catastrophic failures, including derailments. The project offers two implementation options:

  • Wayside Hot Axle Box Detector (HBD): Sensors placed at fixed locations measure infrared temperatures for all passing trains, providing rapid and non-invasive network monitoring.
  • On-Board Bearing Temperature Monitoring: Wireless sensors mounted directly in the axle boxes provide detailed real-time data, enabling precise maintenance and immediate alerts for the crew.
